Australia has unveiled plans to ban tv and radio broadcasts of sports betting chances throughout live sports betting matches in a bid to curb problem gambling.
Gambling advertisements will no longer appear throughout live events and around sporting venues, the federal government said.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard said Australians had become "progressively disappointed" with the promos.
The broadcasting market is anticipated to submit a modified code to Australia's media watchdog showing the changes.
"From the moment that the players step onto the field, to the minute that they leave the field, there will be no live chances," Ms Gillard informed an interview.
"This is good news for households, since families I think have actually become increasingly frustrated about the penetration of live chances into sporting coverage."
Under the new rules, ads would just be enabled before or after a game, or during a set up break in play, such as quarter-time and .
'Focus of game'
Promotion of sports betting odds by bookmakers who seem part of broadcast teams will also be banned.
The National Rugby League, which in the past has actually enabled bookmakers to provide chances during broadcasts, said it concurred with the government's strategy.

"The overwhelming sentiment is that we do not want to see wagering as the primary focus of our game," NRL chief executive Dave Smith stated.
"Fans, and especially young fans, must not be subject to excessive promotion of wagering during matches.
"We want young kids to be delighting in the skills of their preferred team, not estimating the odds."
The broadcasting industry is anticipated to submit a modified code to the Australian Communications and Media Authority, said the government.
It estimates that up to 500,000 Australians are at threat of becoming, or are, issue bettors.
